Cyprus
Letter of Congratulations from M. Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic, to M. Demetris Christophias, President of Cyprus

Paris, February 24, 2008

President Christofias,

Now that you have just been elected President of Cyprus, I want to extend to you my sincere, warm congratulations.

In the high office entrusted to you through universal suffrage, you can count on France's support and friendship. (…)

I very sincerely hope that your mandate provides the opportunity, as you yourself wish, to achieve a settlement of the Cyprus issue that is lasting, fair and in accordance with international law, and for which Greek and Turkish Cypriots have been waiting too long. Rest assured that France, particularly within the United Nations Security Council, will always take a close interest in the efforts to move towards this and be ready to support them. (…)./.
