Letter from Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the Republic, to George W. Bush, President of the United States

Paris, September 11, 2007

Mr. President,

Today the whole world remembers the horrifying attacks that struck America on September 11, 2001, plunging the country into mourning. The enormous emotion and indignation of the American people in the face of these barbarous acts was felt throughout the entire world. They remain intense, and I personally bore witness to them last year at the site of the World Trade Center.

On this day of remembrance, I would like once again, through you, to convey to the American people the friendship and solidarity of the French people and to assure them of France’s resolute support in the fight against the scourge of terrorism.

Please accept, Mr. President, this assurance of my highest regards.

Nicolas SARKOZY
