SKELTON HONORS MARQUIS de LAFAYETTE

Washington, DC - On Saturday, July 7, 2007, there will be a public ceremony honoring Marquis de Lafayette on the courthouse lawn in Lexington, Missouri. The year 2007 marks the 250th anniversary of Lafayette's birth. To commemorate this important occasion, Congressman Skelton authored House Resolution 171, legislation to honor the life and legacy of Lafayette. On May 22, 2007, the House of Representatives approved the bill.

At the ceremony, Congressman Skelton will present a framed copy of the Congressional resolution, signed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, to Major General Jean-Luc Delon, France's top military officer in the United States. As the French government's Military Attache' in Washington, Major General Delon will be representing the people of France at the ceremony.

Congressman Skelton is pleased to welcome Major General Delon to Lafayette County, Missouri, and encourages the public to take part in this very special and unique international visit.
