Publication of the results of the Iraqi parliamentary election – Reaction of Philippe Douste-Blazy, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Prime Minister,

The day after the Independent Electoral Commission of Iraq published the definitive results of the parliamentary election on 15 December 2005, I welcome the consequent completion of the electoral process. In particular, the figures made public yesterday confirm the high turnout of Iraqi voters to elect their representatives.

It is now necessary to pursue, as smoothly as possible, the establishment of the Iraqi institutions and, in particular, form a government.

It is more important than ever to involve all the political forces which reject violence in the next stages of the transition in order to bring peace and stability back to Iraq and guarantee her unity./.
