Franco-Polish communiqué on support for the United Nations Mission of Inquiry into the assassination of Mr Rafiq Hariri

Arras, February 28, 2005

France and Poland confirm their support for the United Nations Mission of Inquiry set up to shed light on Mr Hariri’s assassination and ask that the investigators receive from the parties concerned all the support necessary for the success of their mission.

They confirm their commitment to a complete, immediate implementation of UNSCR 1559 for a sovereign, independent and democratic Lebanon.

This implementation, which requires the withdrawal of the foreign forces and special services, is necessary for the success of the forthcoming general election which has to be conducted without outside interference and allow the Lebanese people to express their views sovereignly and democratically./.
