Simon Wiesenthal

Reaction of Jacques Chirac, President of the Republic, following the death of Simon Wiesenthal

Paris, September 20, 2005

With Simon Wiesenthal’s death, we have lost a tireless fighter for justice and the law.

The horror of the camps which he had survived had mapped out for him a clear, straight path to which he held throughout his life, triumphing over every obstacle with indefatigable energy: hunting the Nazi criminals throughout the world to bring them to trial.

Fervently committed, a tenacious fighter, he constantly spoke out about the horror of the Holocaust so that mankind, by never forgetting it had committed the irreparable, may build a future in which it can never happen again. This imperative remains, today, more relevant than ever./.
