I have learned with horror of the very serious acts of desecration committed this morning at the Jewish cemetery of Herrlisheim in Haut-Rhin.

On behalf of all the French people, I want to say how shocked I am at these outrageous and intolerable acts which I solemnly condemn. I also want to express to all the families concerned, the entire Jewish community of France and its leaders the solidarity of the entire nation. I assure them that the public authorities are absolutely determined to seek out, prosecute and severely punish the perpetrators of this disgraceful act.

Anti-Semitism is contrary to all our values, all our principles and all the ideals of the Republic. Together with the Government, I intend that the fight against acts so unworthy of France is waged with the utmost determination.
