Deadly blaze in Buenos Aires

Letter from Jacques Chirac, President of the Republic, to the Argentinian President following a deadly blaze in Buenos Aires

Paris, December 31, 2004

President Kirchner, [handwritten:] Dear Friend,

I was very deeply shocked to learn of the terrible fire which ravaged a Buenos Aires nightclub last night causing very many deaths.

On this day of mourning for your country, I wanted to extend to you my very sincere condolences and assure you of the solidarity of all the French with the Argentinian people.

I would be grateful if you would be kind enough to convey my heartfelt sympathy to the families of those who have died in this tragedy, and to the injured.

(complimentary close) [handwritten:] assuring you of my solidarity in this tragic ordeal./.
