TERRORIST ATTACKS IN TURKEY

Message of condolence from Dominique de Villepin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to Jack Straw, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Paris, November 20, 2003

Minister, dear Jack,

I was appalled and deeply shocked to learn of the dreadful terrorist attacks which, this morning in Istanbul, struck your country’s consulate general and the local headquarters of a British bank, claiming many lives, including several members of the Foreign Office.

Acts of such barbarity can arouse only our repulsion, anger and indignation. They strengthen our common determination to combat international terrorism of every kind, and to do so with the most wholehearted commitment.

I want to assure you, in these tragic circumstances, of my heartfelt sympathy and France’s solidarity. I would be grateful if you would be kind enough to convey my very sincere condolences to the victims’ families and loved-ones.

(complimentary close)./.
