TERRORIST ATTACKS IN TURKEY

Message of condolence from Jacques Chirac, President of the Republic, to Tony Blair, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

Paris, November 20, 2003

Prime Minister, dear Tony,

I was deeply shocked to learn just now of the despicable terrorist attack perpetrated this morning in Istanbul, and which destroyed Britain’s Consulate General, claiming many lives.

In these tragic circumstances, I want to extend to you my most sincere condolences and ask you to convey to the victims’ families the French people’s heartfelt sympathy and feelings of solidarity.

France utterly condemns these heinous terrorist acts. She will spare no effort, alongside the United Kingdom, to fight relentlessly against terrorism, whatever its source.

(complimentary close)

With my utter indignation and solidarity in this tragedy./.
