I wanted to tell you how appalled I am by the terrible attack this morning in Nassiriyah which caused the deaths of many members of the Italian contingent in Iraq.

In these tragic circumstances, I wish to extend to you my deep sympathy and assure you of my total solidarity I would be grateful if you would kindly convey the sincere condolences of the French authorities to the victims' families and loved-ones.

In the face of this ordeal, France shares the pain and grief of the Italian people.
