SAO TOME AND PRINCIPE

France continues to follow the situation in Sao Tome and Principe very closely. It reiterates its condemnation of all seizure of power by force, in accordance with the constitutional principles of the African Union.

It supports the efforts of the countries in the region to restore democratic legitimacy and constitutional order in Sao Tome and Principe.

SYRIA/LEBANON

Q - Do you have any reaction to the redeployment of Syrian troops?

We have taken note of the reports of a partial redeployment of the Syrian army in northern Lebanon and south of Beirut.

The measure is a step in the right direction. As you will recall, Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin, speaking at a press briefing on April 30, underscored the need for Syria to pursue the withdrawal of the troops it has in Lebanon./.
