INFORMATIONS FOR TRADERS
The Foreign Trade Statistics

Foreign Trade Statistics, collected, processed and disseminated by Customs may help you:

  • to increase your sales abroad, if you wish to open up new markets, increase your market share or diversify your range of products;
  • to find new customers on the French domestic market, if you wish to be advised of the volume of imports in order to substitute your own products to those imported or if you wish to be provided with a list of firms in some specific spheres of activity.

Feel free to contact the Regional Statistics Info-Centers, use the "Minitel" or the Internet or purchase the Codex CD-Rom. Various subscription procedures will allow you to receive directly, on a monthly basis, the required data.

In the Regional Statistics Info-Centers

They are near to you. There, you may consult any statistical series published by Customs and, in particular, the Foreign Trade Statistics Yearbook and the Codex CD-Rom, or retrieve detailed data on the "Beatrice" database.

The addresses of the Regional Statistics Info-Centers are listed below.

  • The Foreign Trade Statistics Yearbook
  • Data, on a yearly basis, are available in the Combined Nomenclature (based on the WCO Harmonized System of classification) and by countries. The publication may be bought from the National Printing Office ("Imprimerie Nationale").

    • The "Beatrice" database
    • The database contains data on the current year and on the three previous years, broken down in countries of origin and destination and in traded products (identified according to the Combined nomenclature). You may also access regional and local ("départements") series.

You will be provided with a wide range of detailed and accurate information on the volume and value of traded goods, by country of origin or destination.

  • The "Minitel" or the Internet

    • On the "Minitel": 36.15 DOUANETEL
    • The "Beatrice" database may be accessed directly on the "Minitel" after dialing 36.15 DOUANETEL.

    • On the Internet
    • You may access the monthly foreign trade statistics, just after they have been published, on the French Ministry of Finance World-Wide-Web site :

      http://www.finances.gouv.fr/douanes

  • The Codex CD-Rom
  • The Codex CD-Rom is particularly easy to read (thanks to an interface with Windows). It contains a large number of data: 10,000 products traded with 200 countries, broken down in volume and value, with 8 years of annual records and 3 years of monthly records.
