  • Hamlaoui Mekachera is a former student of preparatory military schools (student cadet) and officer cadet at the Saint-Maixent Officer School
  • After having served in Indo-China, he returned to Algeria on completing training at the Saint-Maixent Infantry School in 1958. As a second lieutenant and then lieutenant he took part in operations along the Tunisian border with the 60th Infantry Regiment.
  • From 1962 he served successively as officer at Lons-le-Saunier, La Roche-sur-Yon and then Nantes where he was promoted to the rank of captain and then major.
  • Civil career

  • 1977-1986 Director of the Jura Psychotherapy Centre (Saint Ylie)
  • 1986-1995 Director of Jura specialist hospital (establishment of therapeutic centres for people with psychological problems, within the framework of the fight against alcohol and drug abuse.

  • 1995-1997 Interministerial representative for Integration (Juppé government)
