HERVE GAYMARD
Minister for the Economy, Finance and Industry

Born on 31 May 1960 in Bourg-Saint-Maurice (Savoie)

With a degree in law and a diploma from the Institut d'Etudes Politiques, Hervé Gaymard is also a graduate of the Ecole nationale d'administration (ENA) and an administrateur civil [high-ranking civil servant]. He also sits on the board of the Georges Pompidou National Centre of Art and Culture.

Elective offices
Hervé Gaymard has been Chairman of Savoie General Council since 1999. He became Rassemblement pour la République (RPR) National Assembly Deputy for Savoie in 1993, replacing Michel Barnier on the latter's appointment to Government.

Hervé Gaymard was re-elected to the National Assembly in 1995 and 1997. In the National Assembly he is a member of the Finance Committee, the special committee responsible for examining the bill to reform the institutional ordinance of 1959 [reference text for the management of public finances] and the joint fact-finding mission preparing the bill to revise France's "bioethics legislation".

Ministerial offices
Hervé Gaymard was Minister of State for Finance attached, from 18 May to 26 August 1995 to the Minister for the Economy and Finance, and then from 26 August to 7 November 1995 to the Minister for the Economy, Finance and Planning.
He also held the post of Minister of State, with responsibility for Health and Social Security, attached to the Minister of Labour and Social Affairs from 7 November 1995 to 2 June 1997.
Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and Rural affairs, May 2002 thru November 29, 2004.

Political offices

Hervé Gaymard is a member of the RPR's Committee and Political Bureau, and Vice-Chairman of the RPR group in the National Assembly.
